Very Long Persian Sultanabad Rug
This antique Sultanabad rug was woven in Persia during the latter years of the 19th century. Persian Sultanabad rugs are admired for their exceptional compositions, which tend to be highly evocative of classical Persian design. This particular Sultanabad rug exhibits a dark blue central backdrop, with energetic red vines and flowers that trail across the middle panel. Brilliant touches of yellow, green, cream and bright blue accent the playful, dense pattern. Triangular cut-outs at the top and corners frame the center field with lighter toned bouquets. Layers of border frames encircle the edges of the carpet, and they are each filled with geometric vinery.
Measures: 11’10 x 27′.
