This stunning Agra carpet beautifully illustrates the magnificent splendor of late 19th century Indian design and craftsmanship. Its calculatingly simple design easily calls to mind the regal elegance of the Taj-Mahal. Various shades of intoxicating blues form the base to create the appearance of an open pool of water. Delicately floating at its center is a crown jewel medallion in luscious tones of lavender, amber, ivory and wine red. An inspiring geometric border and corner motifs in a similar palette brilliantly complement the center piece medallion and gloriously frame the seductive sea of blue. The colors on the top left of the rug are a little inconsistent with the rest, as shown in the main picture.
