Antique Qashqai Persian rug with all-over sub-geometric design and tiered border, rug e-0508, country of origin / type: Iran / Qashqai, circa 1910
The Qashgai nomads are found in the Fars province in southwest Iran. They move twice a year, between the winter pasture near the Persian Gulf and the summer pasture up in the Zagros mountains where it is much cooler. Their carpets have a typical red-brown ground color, and the patterns are recalled from memory. This particular early 20th century antique Qashgai carpet features an all-over design of various sub-geometric elements in shades of teal, robin’s egg blue, ivory, cream, navy blue, and charcoal. The entirety of the piece is surrounded by a multi-tiered border of complementary figures.
Measures: 5’2 x 10’8.
