Antique Caucasian Karaqashl Rug

Woven in the Kuba district of the northeast Caucasus Mountain, this Karagashli features a distinctive combination of bold geometry enhanced by a beautifully saturated color palette. This example, from the late 19th century, features three red medallions on a deep indigo field. The Classic Karagashli “snowflake” motif and charming, stylized animals serve as ancillary decoration. A gold border featuring “latch hook” motifs frames the field. A mocha brown minor border features stylized flower heads.
