This superb antique Heriz-Serapi carpet, with its highly stylized central medallion and impressive geometric motifs, beautifully illustrates the grandeur of sophisticated Persian craftsmanship and design. The extended body of the central medallion is composed of compartmentalized vignettes, each bearing a particular palmette. Large, stretched palmettes are balanced at either end as the remainder of the field entertains a significant number of geometric branching floral motifs, various blossoms, angular laurel leaves and palmettes. Geometric cornices in ivory are held in place by a regal border of alternating palmettes and blossoms joined by angled laurel leaves.
