Amazing Antique Caucasian Chi-Chi Rug with Fine & sophisticated Geometric Design.
Measures: 4’4” x 5’9”
Fine Weave Antique Caucasian Chi-Chi Rug, rug M14-0904, country of origin / type: Caucasus / Kazak, circa late-19th Century.
Chi-Chi carpets are among the finest and most fascinating Caucasian rugs among collectors. Antique Chi-Chi rugs were made by Tchetchen tribes from the Caucuses mountains near the town of Dagestan. Since Nomads move from one place to another in different seasons, they encounter other nomadic tribes that make splendid rugs with different designs that are reflection of their own culture and their way of life. It is not unusual that these tribes would sometimes adopt certain cultural elements from these neighboring groups into their own traditional designs. This beautiful and very fine Chi-Chi represents this cultural adaptation and is considered an atypical Chi-Chi.
The background of this rug features an indigo color with small patterns consisting of organic and naturalistic elements with a geometric flair. The beautiful border displays a complex repeating design surrounded by multi-guard borders of unique designs and delightful colors.
