This vintage Sultanabad Mahal rug (circa mid-20th century) relies heavily on exquisite details as well as large-scale flowers and palmettes. A fine trellis of beautifully colored large and small flowers sprawls across the red field and surrounds two central medallions, pulsating with alternating rhythms in contrasting ivory, salmon pink, green, blue, charcoal, brown, and yellow. Crisply drawn palmettes, flowers and serrated leaves imbue the rug with a beautiful articulation of pattern.
